I was surprised with a backstage pass for this show by my boss in a record store! Sat in the bleachers with Kesey and Walton and extended family for the

first set, then followed everyone downstairs to a wrestling locker room where food and drink was being served. Then, just before the break ended I spotted Jerry across the room talking to two little girls! Soo...I pulled out a fattie and strolled over to him and got him good and buzzed !

My girlfriend and i had hitch-hiked from Portland the night before to get to this show. this was before the big boom in Deadheads of the early 80's and
...
the Dead could still play smaller venues. When we arrived people were selling extra tickets for $5. The arena was like a high school gym and was only 2/3 full. The heat was almost unbearable, but the boys put on an epic show. Highlights include a smokin Scarlet _ Fire, awesome Other One - Stella blue and of course ken Kesey and the pranksters with the Thunder machine during drums. This is an overlooked show that not many people seem to have, and one of the best of the over 250 that I saw.

My memory of this show centers on the deliciously long intro into The Other One out of the Drums, cluminating with Phil's thunderous buh-buh-Buh-BUH-BOOM!
...
Many years later I had the fortune of speaking with Phil about this and mentioned to him how much I loved that moment and his part in that song, and he replied that he loved doing the buh-buh-Buh-BUH-BOOM too.

I remember perspiring heavily, from the moment I walked in, until the moment I walked out. However it was well worth it, since Kesey, Babbs, and The Thunder
...
Machine were outrageous; not to mention, the ecstatic performance of the choosen, albeit very generic, list of songs !
